- Birckhead '42 of Cincinnati Awarded Nichols College President's Medal
Oliver W. Birckhead, Jr., retired chairman & CEO of Central Bancorporation/Central Trust Company was awarded the President’s Medal in a ceremony on the Nichols College campus on October 17th.
“Tonight, the President’s Medal goes to one whose reputation for sustained success, innovations in his leadership in his industry are without peer,” said President Debra M. Townsley. “With admiration and great affection, we award the President’s Distinguished Business Leadership Medal to our own Oliver W. Birckhead, Jr., Nichols’ Class of 1942.

- Band without Instruments Rocks!
Boston-based Five O’clock Shadow (FOCS), one of the most unique musical groups out there, made an appearance on the Nichols College campus November 12th and rocked Daniels Auditorium.
Every instrument sound, whether of a guitar, drum, or brass, was, in fact, generated through the vocal virtuosity of its five talented and likeable members: Oren Malka, David “Stack” Stackhouse, Dan Lennon, Kaleb Whelden, and Paul Pampinella.

Professor Hans Despain told Nichols College students on Oct. 23rd that they needed to "wake-up politically," and wake-up they did! The 2008 presidential election was an historic, and young people were a deciding factor in the record turnout.

Nine Nichols College seniors have been selected as outstanding campus leaders and named to the 2009 edition of "Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges."

- Trick or Treat
On Wednesday, Oct. 22, approximately 100 students from the Webster-Dudley Boys & Girls Club joyfully trick-or-treated on campus and posed for pictures with President Townsley on the steps of Conrad Hall. The event was organized by the Arts & Entertainment Club.

- Employee Recognition Luncheon a Highlight to All Campus Day Workshops
On October 14th, an Employee Recognition Luncheon was held in Nichols Auditorium to celebrate service from five to thirty-five years! It was part of a full day of campus-wide workshops for Nichols College faculty and staff which focused on campus initiatives and concurrent morning and afternoon sessions.

- Book Reception Held for Dr. James Conrad Jr.
On October 7th in Daniels Auditorium, Nichols President Debra M. Townsley hosted a reception to celebrate Dr. James Lawson Conrad Jr.’s new book entitled Nichols Academy: The Spring on the Hill 1815-1931. The book is available for purchase in the Nichols College Bookstore for $14.95.
