Teaching Philosophy:
I attempt to view students holistically. We are all comprised of the intellectual, the physical, the social/emotional, and the spiritual (our definitions may vary). We also learn differently using some combination of verbal, visual, and kinetic methods. With that understanding, I try to bring my course material to the student in a variety of ways to help them more completely comprehend and properly apply new concepts to their personal and professional lives. Classes are dynamic, expecting full participation from the students.
Course Goals:
It is my goal in Principles of Marketing to lay the foundation of this all-encompassing discipline. Whether the student is taking P of M only as a foundation core class or it is the introduction to their area of study, it is important to learn the concepts and the vocabulary of marketing to succeed in the global economies of today. The goal in my upper level courses is to provide the student with a set of knowledge, skills, and abilities that will prepare them for a dynamic career in business marketing.
General Business Program Chair:
As chair of the General Business program I attempt to guide the student through a curriculum of some individual choice. Many students prefer a more general business education to prepare them for broader career choices. My approach is to listen with empathy and to help guide the student in the "right" course selections.
My two greatest interests academically and professionally are in marketing the human resource and research. It is my belief that a person must first be able to market them self before they are able to successfully market a good or service. The profession demands competent, ethical people whose integrity is without question. Marketing research encourages the finding and understanding of truth. Once truth is identified those responsible for making decisions can stand on firm ground knowing their choice was based on facts and not emotion.
On a personal side, I enjoy reading, playing golf, and being with my family. I consider myself very fortunate. My God has blessed me with good health, a wonderful family, a dynamic career, and the desire to enjoy it all. What more can one ask for?
