Go live... on WNRC Radio
WNRC Has Got the Power!
Nichols College Radio Station, WNRC 97.5, is located on campus in Alumni Hall and runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Before the move to its new studio, WNRC was housed for many years in Academy Hall.
In 2005, the station received a long-awaited nod from the FCC for its application to inch up the FM dial and increase its wattage from 14 to 100 watts. This has allowed the station to increase its service area to local communities throughout Southern Worcester County, particularly the towns of Dudley, Charlton and Webster.
In addition to supporting a variety of live musical formats - from polka to punk - and an eclectic automated mix, the station has plans to offer greater community access to events on the Nichols campus and expanded programming opportunities.
Any Nichols College student can join the WNRC team, regardless of experience. WNRC officers will train future DJ's on the radio station technology (If you can run a cd player, you will have no trouble learning the basics of being a radio DJ.). We encourage undergraduate and graduate students to get involved; if interested, please contact the station manager.
To start the process, please download and sign our "DJ Terms and Conditions," as linked above. If you are a minor and wish to participate in a program, you must sign the "Release form for Minors" attached.
The station is licensed by the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) and is a fully functioning station with the same rights, rules and responsibilities as any radio station.
2004 Dedication to James C. Gahan IV
The new studio for the Nichols College radio station (at that time WNRC 95.1 FM) was dedicated in the memory of James C. Gahan IV, a Nichols student who perished in the tragic Station nightclub fire in Rhode Island in February 2003.
Gahan was a DJ at the college radio station who hosted the popular "Jim and Mikey's Power Hour" show with classmate, Michael Ricardi, a survivor of the fire. Jimmy Gahan's parents, James Gahan III and Carol Gahan of Falmouth, MA. unveiled the plaque bearing their son's name at the dedication.
The new WNRC studio was made possible by generous support from alumnus and college Trustee Robert Kuppenheimer '69, the Jimmy Gahan Charitable Foundation, Mr. and Mrs. James C. Gahan III, and the Nichols Student Government Association. The studio was built by the College's Buildings and Grounds Department as part of a complete renovation of Alumni Hall, the Nichols Student Center.
