Academic Programs

Nichols College's primary objective centers on the intellectual and professional development of each student.

Our faculty is focused on preparing students for meaningful careers in business, public service, and the professions.

This results-oriented education takes place in a friendly, nurturing, small college environment where students are encouraged to "invent themselves."

Majors

Nichols offers two undergraduate bachelor's degrees - a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (with a concentration in General Business) and a Bachelor of Arts. Students may work in a number of specialization areas within the undergraduate degree programs, as follows:

Business Administration

Business students at Nichols College must complete approximately 50% of their credits in liberal arts courses. In addition to the business core course, majors must complete six courses in one of the following areas of business: Accounting, Arts and Entertainment, Business Communications, Criminal Justice Management, Economics, Finance, General Business, Human Resource Management, International Business, Management, Management Information Systems, Marketing, or Sport Management.

Programs in Liberal Arts

A small college with specialized programs in administration, Nichols considers basic to our understanding of human activities those liberal disciplines upon which the study of administration is founded, namely the social sciences, history and government, and the arts and humanities. The College has combined coursework required of all Nichols students with carefully selected upper level offerings to provide programs leading to the Bachelor of Arts degree with majors in economics, English, history, general psychology, or mathematics.

These programs provide a solid background for a variety of careers, as well as giving students a foundation for advanced graduate studies. Through the courses of their major, students earning Bachelor of Arts degrees develop a mastery of knowledge, methods, and theories pertinent to their area of specialization. The liberal curriculum produces a well-rounded graduate who is capable of critical and logical thinking; has knowledge of scientific, historical and social phenomena; has an appreciation of aesthetic and ethical aspects of life; is a competent communicator; can think scientifically and quantitatively; and is capable of lifelong learning.

Educator Preparation

Students can qualify for an initial teaching license in the state of Massachusetts by completing the Nichols College Business, History, English, or Mathematics for Middle or Secondary School Educator Preparation Program and passing all parts of the Massachusetts Test for Educator Licensure. Each of these programs has a list of required courses and an official admissions process. When applying for the Teaching Practicum, students must decide whether they will be applying for middle or secondary school license and complete a practicum at the appropriate grade level.
