Academic Advising

An advisor is available to help you make informed choices about your academic goals. Throughout your educational journey at Nichols, you should make contact with your advisor on a regular basis. The first phase of academic advising will focus on planning a program of study. Additionally, your advisor will assist you in making sure that you complete courses in the proper sequence to meet the requirements of your major.

Benefits of Advising

Meeting with your academic advisor can provide an opportunity for you to:

  • Find out what courses are appropriate to take each semester
  • Discuss making academic and career choices or receive more information about a specific major
  • Become better informed about the college's academic policies
  • Discuss academic concerns
  • Utilize your advisor as a liaison with other departments as needed

Questions to Ask

Your advisor can help answer any questions you may have including:

  • How many credits should I take?
  • Am I on track for graduation?
  • What are the benefits and costs of dropping a course?
  • What options do I have if I want to change my major?
  • How can I pursue a secondary area of study?

Advisors

Students are assigned either a full-time professional staff member or a full-time faculty member as an advisor.  Assignments are made based on major and are done prior to the start of the student's first semester.  The college reserves the right to change advisors at any time.

To determine who the assigned academic advisor is, students should log on to WebAdvisor and access their program evaluation.  The advisor's name is located on the top left of that document.  Contact information is available through the campus directory.
